چکیده

This study compared the use of both the MODIS LAI (MOD15A2) product, which provides directly the 8-day LAI at 1km spatial resolution, and the MODIS 8-day surface reflectance product (MOD09A1) in retrieving and estimating the seasonal variation of LAI for irrigated rice in the Mekong delta, Vietnam. The Soil-Leaf-Canopy (SLC) radiative transfer model was employed to invert MOD09A1 reflectance spectra to get LAI estimates through the look-up table (LUT) approach. The result showed that the dynamic evolution of LAI of irrigated rice during one cropping season could be estimated fairly well by the SLC model (R = 0.69, RMSE= 0.9). This result is a great improvement compared to the retrieved LAI from MOD15A2 (R = 0.07, RMSE = 2.1).

Leaf Area Index Estimation Using Chinese GF-1 Wide Field View Data in an Agriculture Region

Leaf area index (LAI) is an important vegetation parameter that characterizes leaf density and canopy structure, and plays an important role in global change study, land surface process simulation and agriculture monitoring. The wide field view (WFV) sensor on board the Chinese GF-1 satellite can acquire multi-spectral data with decametric spatial resolution, high temporal resolution and wide c...

Inversion of a radiative transfer model for estimating vegetation LAI and chlorophyll in a heterogeneous grassland

Radiative transfer models have seldom been applied for studying heterogeneous grassland canopies. Here, the potential of radiative transfer modeling to predict LAI and leaf and canopy chlorophyll contents in a heterogeneous Mediterranean grassland is investigated. The widely used PROSAIL model was inverted with canopy spectral reflectance measurements by means of a look-up table (LUT). Canopy s...

Modelling the spectral response of the desert tree Prosopis tamarugo to water stress

In this paper, we carried out a laboratory experiment to study changes in canopy reflectance of Tamarugo plants under controlled water stress. Tamarugo (Prosopis tamarugo Phil.) is an endemic and endangered tree species adapted to the hyper-arid conditions of the Atacama Desert, Northern Chile. Observed variation in reflectance during the day (due to leaf movements) as well as changes over the ...

Estimation of Vegetation Water Content with MODIS data and Radiative Transfer Simulation

Radiative-transfer physically-based studies have previously demonstrated the relationship between leaf water content and leaf-level reflectance in the near-infrared spectral region. The successful scaling up of such methods to the canopy level requires modeling the effect of canopy structure and viewing geometry on reflectance bands and optical indices used for estimation of water content, such...

Estimating FAPAR of Rice Growth Period Using Radiation Transfer Model Coupled with the WOFOST Model for Analyzing Heavy Metal Stress

Timely assessment of crop growth conditions under heavy metal pollution is of great significance for agricultural decision-making and estimation of crop productivity. The object of this study is to assess the effects of heavy metal stress on physiological functions of rice through the spatial-temporal analysis of the fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (FAPAR). The calculat...
